Friday Coffee Hour: Check In and Hangout for the Herd

Good morning, Moosekind. TGIF! Don’t forget to let your peeps know where to find you.

PLEASE Do Not Recommend the check-in diary!

Recs on the weather jar comment are still welcome.

Friday Coffee Hour and check-in is an open thread and general social hour. Come back when time allows through the day – the conversation continues.

It’s traditional but not obligatory to give us a weather check where you are and let us know what’s new, interesting, challenging or even routine in your life lately. Nothing is particularly obligatory here except:

Always remember the Moose Golden (Purple?) Rule:

Be kind to each other… or else.

What could be simpler than that, right?

62 and cloudy in the Shenandoah Valley, headed for a high of 86. Dense fog this morning.

So I owe folks a bit of an apology. The new job is fun but is turning out to be extremely fast paced and intense at the moment. I was hired because materials at one company were a mess and it turns out…they’re a mess. I’m working on fixing that (why I was hired) but in the meantime I’m at a dead run all day.

I am sorry I’m least in sight. It will get better down the road!

  2. 72 degrees in Madison WI. Expected high of 90 degrees but storms around mid-day cooling us down into the low 80s for the next couple of days. 70s again starting Monday.

Last working day of August means lots of loose ends to tie down. I hope to be able to come back for a visit. If not, tomorrow is the weekend and my time becomes my own again.

    See you later!

oh well.  Headed off to school in a few – have some notes to read/print before – so waving “hi” and “bye”

    Have a good day!

I see a cardiologist this morning at 8:30. Hoping it’s just a rite of passage and not a door to a place I don’t want to go.

My phone says it’s 75 degrees right now. Sigh. High of 104 today and over the weekend. When even our weather guys are saying to take precautions in the heat, that’s bad.

So I’m eating beans & drinking tea. Deposit still isn’t in my account. But I’ll check again after 8. I may have to use my whole paycheck to pay my bills, then not buy groceries till the big deposit arrives. Not that I’m anxious or anything. I have beans & quinoa at home & I can buy frozen spinach on my Target card. But I really wish this deposit would…. deposit.

We discussed the agency director candidates a little after the presentations yesterday, going to have a short meeting this morning with the division director. She cares what we think, though the people making the decision don’t really (she’s supposed to report what we think to them, but we know it won’t influence their decision). The current acting director is obviously our favorite. Besides the whole “better the devil management you know” thing, he’s a nice guy. The middle presenter…. well, he did start his career as a page at the public library (good, humble, actual work) but he currently works at a corporation that privatizes library stuff. We no likee. Not that he’s saying he wants to do that, but that’s what he does for a living now. And the last presenter, the only woman, has the least experience, but was really interesting, and had a lot of good ideas & stuff to say.

So, my day: short meeting, new diary, do bills, try to not check my bank balance every hour.

74 going to 93 today.  Hot and humid.  Maybe storms later.  I hope so.  At least it would cool it down a bit.  I am just not a hot weather person.  Can’t wait for football weather to arrive (sorry to the southerners for whom that doesn’t resonate).

Today:  laundry, cleaning, two kids, work out, store for party food

    Wish me luck!

I had the last of three injections in my knees yesterday, and in contrast to the previous experience it hurt. Plus I had to park over a block away, down hill, and it was raining…..whaaaa!

I was close to asking the food delivery man to hoist me on the load he was inching down the same hill and drop me off close to the car. We did smile and commiserate and that did help.

    record setting heat.  again.

weatherwise.  Except for one last desk (and those data drops that aren’t going to be done until the end of next week – if we’re lucky) the move is completed.  Today is the last day of enrollment so I expect totally freaked-out desperate students in here shortly (and the REALLY desperate ones will show up with problems that take a hour to fix about 15 minutes before the office closes).  Monday’s a holiday so I won’t be online.  Nice to have an extra day for the weekend, but I hate monday-on-tuesday and we’re back to QC meetings next week, and I really hate not checking in with the mooses.  I hope I can get back later today.  {{{HUGS}}} bf

It’s a lovely morning outside with just the thinnest of fog layers through which blue is already showing. And I can actually see the sun rising over the neighborhood. Yesterday I walked through the park to the orthopedic clinic and actually worked up a sweat. Incredible.

So I’ve been cleared for full activity including joining the neighborhood gym, so long as I stick to low-impact exercise. The doctor says “Ellipticals, good; treadmills, not so much.” Hoping my budget will handle the membership fees.

Hope these clouds stick around and keep us from having another hot day. I’m ready for fall. Anyone got fun plans for the long weekend?

I love my cardiologist. Best doctor ever. I look as healthy as a horse so far. Just an echo and a stress test next month.

Hoping for another productive day, but so far haven’t done a whole lot.

Still waiting for my wheelchair wheel to ship. Not going too many places til it comes in.
