FOX in a Henhouse

‘For Tea Party firebrands, and likely Fox loyalists, Rove is the face of Republican Establishment, of the enemy, which means to a certain degree so is Fox News.’

I agree with Eric Boehlert at Media Matters that FOX is in a bind and it’s a problem they created,

‘The Tea Party likely wouldn’t exist today without Fox News, which means any effort to divorce itself from the movement could prove cumbersome. It’s also a move that might alienate its core viewers. There’s already grumbling from Tea Party defenders who are unhappy with Rove’s prominent association with Fox News.’

It’s clear that FOX has sided with the Big Money Boys backing Karl Rove and his Conservative Victory Project via American Crossroads. Roger Ailes has apparently realized that rigid and radical Tea Bagger orthodoxy is no longer profitable for the network or the Republican party and the bottom line dictates that teh stupid be set adrift (Romney who?). Sarah Palin was quietly let go and chief cheerleader Dick Morris, who is as bad at math as I am, was unceremoniously given his walking papers.

Smarting from an embarrassing loss, two excrutiating minutes of self doubt and true to their fashion, someone must be blamed. So Tea Baggers are blaming Rove and he’s blaming them and the fur and feathers are starting to fly.

Penning a scathing editorial in Politico this week,

‘syndicated radio host Steve Deace lashed out at Rove and his “prominent and annoying display on Fox News as the Republican ruling class’ mouthpiece.’

So what’s happened to the legendary Republican party discipline or does that only apply when they win?

‘One of the defining traits of the right-wing media for years, if not decades, has been the extraordinary discipline under which its players operate. Less interested in public debates among themselves and more focused on attacking common enemies, conservatives haven’t invested a lot of time and resources in soul searching. But as electoral losses pile up, the frustration is seeping into public view.

Another structural problem is Fox doesn’t really function as a clearinghouse for ideas, or a town hall forum where conservatives can hash out their differences. (Heated agreement appears to be the programming goal.) Fox News’ purpose is to serve as a partisan missile. Now, as the civil war erupts, Fox might have to divert its attention from bashing Obama and be forced to play referee between two embittered conservative camps. Either that, or pick sides.’

Yesireebob, FOX is in a henhouse all right, surrounded by all the Tea Bag chickens they helped incubate and now there’s a whole lotta’ pecking and squawking.

‘I’m filing the paperwork to form a super PAC to support freedom-loving conservative alternatives to @karlrove on FOX, Joe Walsh (@WalshFreedom) February 5, 2013’

Fur and feathers will fly for the foreseeable future.

for a circular firing squad. For the most part, Dems are great at that even when we win and the Republicans do lockstep with elan.

Hopefully this will tarnish the Fox brand among those who have had Tea Party ideology spoon fed to them for nearly 5 years now. But I have my doubts.

looks like it might extend into the spring, summer, and fall.

I hope against hope that we will see a return to real television journalism, rather than this ongoing puppet show where big money is pulling the strings on 24/7 propaganda. Until then, dear occupant, I will rely on your excellent reporting!

detailing just how deep the duping was with Tea Party types.

Koch Planning Tea Party Since 2002, New Research Paper Reveals

The common public understanding of the origins of the Tea Party is that it is a popular grassroots uprising that began with anti-tax protests in 2009.

Shattering the public perception that the Tea Party is a spontaneous popular citizens movement, a new academic paper provides evidence that an organization founded by David and Charles Koch, attempted to launch the Tea Party movement in 2002.

the Koch’s influence and tentacles are everywhere. the great documentarian, Robert Greenwald produced a film about the Koch’s.

‘After more than a year of research, Greenwald’s film exposes tactics used by the Koch brothers to sway the political narrative in their favor, while illustrating the dangers of unbridled influence when in the hands of few.

“When I learned about the damage Charles and David Koch were doing to our democracy, I wanted to make sure more Americans understood just what these billionaire brothers were up to,” said Greenwald. “If we allow them to hide in the shadows, they can keep funding politicians and hijacking our political process with impunity-and we’ll never get justice for the 99%.”

hearing their names always reminds of the powerful moment Teddy stood on the floor of the Senate and bellowed,’When will the greed end?!’ it isn’t your imagination or just the plaques and signs you see, as you probably know they are insidious, evil and a threat to our democracy.

‘The Echo Chamber of Influence – Documents and interviews unearthed by Brave New Foundation researchers illustrate a $28.4 million Koch effort that has manufactured 297 opinions and commentaries, 200 reports, 56 studies and six books distorting Social Security’s effectiveness and purpose.

Voter Suppression – The Kochs’ have funded efforts to potentially thwart 21 million Americans from voting as Koch dollars helped write and propose voting suppression bills in 38 states.

Keystone XL – Along with ample evidence linking the Kochs’ business to the Canadian tar sands, they refuse to testify in Congress about their financial interest in the controversial Keystone XL.

Re-Segregation – Americans for Prosperity – a political advocacy group founded by the Koch brothers – led the effort to remake a successful school diversity policy in Wake County, NC; which was the model framework for scores of school districts across the country.

Cancer in Crossett – Koch Industries is among the top ten worst air polluters. And, Georgia Pacific, a Koch Industries subsidiary in Arkansas, is one of the largest manufacturers of the human carcinogen formaldehyde.

Higher Education – At a time when governments are slashing higher education funding, the Charles Koch Charitable Foundation has given more than $14.39 million in grants to over 150 universities. In return, some of these campuses are required to hire candidates who adhere to Koch-defined ideological guidelines.’

to the Republican rebuttal tonight, should be very interesting.

    Key to Tea Party’s Future

‘Fresh off a mixed bag of sweeping victories and high-profile defeats in the 2010 midterms, the Tea Party had proven its ability to uproot the status quo both within the Republican Party and in Congress as a whole.

With Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul set to deliver the Tea Party’s third annual response to the State of the Union speech on Tuesday, the pressure is on for the group to prove its ongoing influence, particularly amid growing criticism from establishment Republicans who accuse it of promoting unelectable candidates at the larger GOP’s expense.’
