I’m Barack Obama, and I approve Bruce’s message

Every now and then, Bruce takes another hack at writing his own “This Land is Your Land,” a populist, inclusive, communitarian nationalist anthem.  This one is even more blatant than most, and teeters on the edge of unintentional self-parody.  Yet it’s somehow sustained by Springsteen’s unflinching sincerity, a more welcome than expected naive exuberance.  It also should be considered the first major campaign ad for Obama’s reelection and should end with the title of this diary.

Clint Eastwood and Bruce Springsteen both with the same timely message.  You know, these aren’t specifically pro-Obama, either of them, but when these cultural icons reach down into our hearts about what America’s bedrock really is it just happens that Obama is standing there already.

Interesting to note the “we take care of our own” is an eloquent tribute to the battlefield ethos that Obama was struggling to reference in the SOTU address.  I think we just might be at an ideological turning point yet again.  It’s been a long, cold night.

  2. With all the nasty trollery on the political blogosphere, it’s sometimes easy to forget the decency, hard work and honour of so many (extra) ordinary voting people. This video reminds me what I love about your country.

Well done, Bruce. Good diary Joe-son. And god bless your country.
