Since 2008 – Progress Through Politics

nouns, verbs & 9/11 thrown at Sotomayor

(My apologies for writing a second diary today, but this got too long for a comment)

Well we should have known it was coming.

In the twisted logic of wingnut non-thinking un-analysis (is there such a word?) at the National Review online, Wendy Long, of the Judicial Confirmation Network states:

Sotomayor for the Court  [Wendy Long]

Judge Sotomayor is a liberal judicial activist of the first order who thinks her own personal political agenda is more important that the law as written. She thinks that judges should dictate policy, and that one’s sex, race, and ethnicity ought to affect the decisions one renders from the bench.

She reads racial preferences and quotas into the Constitution, even to the point of dishonoring those who preserve our public safety. On September 11, America saw firsthand the vital role of America’s firefighters in protecting our citizens. They put their lives on the line for her and the other citizens of New York and the nation. But Judge Sotomayor would sacrifice their claims to fair treatment in employment promotions to racial preferences and quotas. The Supreme Court is now reviewing that decision.

She has an extremely high rate of her decisions being reversed, indicating that she is far more of a liberal activist than even the current liberal activist Supreme Court.

So, Sonia, (or Maria according to Huckabee)  Sotomayor is anti-fire fighters, which means she’s anti-Amurican, which means she supports terrists (people who own terriers – I think)

Sirens now sound as Long trots out well-worn buzz words, “racial preferences” and “quotas” then throws the “sex” word into the hopper, just to make sure her illiterate readership gets the drift.

According to Right-Wing Watch:

The Judicial Confirmation Network (JCN) was created just as the debate in the Senate over Republican leaders’ plans to eliminate the use of the filibuster on judicial nominations was reaching its apex. JCN was also active in the right-wing campaign to confirm Chief Justice John Roberts and Justice Samuel Alito.

According to her bio online:

Wendy Long is legal counsel to the Judicial Confirmation Network. Until March 2005, she was a litigation partner in the New York office of Kirkland & Ellis LLP. Wendy was a law clerk to U.S. Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas (my bold) and to Judge Ralph Winter of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit in New York. She is a graduate of Northwestern University School of Law, cum laude and Order of the Coif, where she was articles editor of the Northwestern University Law Review, and of Dartmouth College. She previously served as a press secretary in the U.S. Senate, for former U.S. Senator Bill Armstrong (R-Colo.) and former U.S. Senator Gordon Humphrey (R-N.H.).

Meanwhile Freepers make intelligent well thought out comments on the appointment of Sonia like:

SOTOMAYOR! Great/ Legislate from the bench why dontcha, puta.

(For those of you who don’t speak Spanish she is being called a whore).

WHAT is this FIRST HISPANIC garbage?

“HAD” diabetes? Nope, she HAS diabetes. And that might be a good thing, because she will likely not live as long as recent Justices are wont to do.Pardon the un-PC.

And this:

This is GREAT news to celebrate. Sotomayor is a moron, by far the most intellectually inferior of the choices. This means she will have no ability to sway Kennedy or other justices to her side on swing issues. Kagan and Wood were known to be very charismatic and able to influence others to their side. Also there is controversy about her comments regarding judicial activism, which was littered with the pedestrian language she is typical of, and which shows her lack of intellectual rigor. This is the best of a bad bunch for us.

My, my – they are concerned about how we in the left blogosphere feel:

DailyKOS and DU are going to have a fit about her age and health.

I think I’ll pass this along to El Diario, and several other Latino news outlets.  I’m sure they will be amused.

  1. Well, you can’t have one party make a decision without someone in the other losing their freaking minds.  My own current bias – as always – known, it still seems that the radical right has more stoopid on its mind than is at all normal.

I caught up with a good friend I hadn’t spoken to in a long time – an ex-military Christian conservative who was not at all impressed with Candidate Obama.  When we got to politics I was ready for a strong reaction, and I got one.  He thinks the GOP has lost its freaking mind (and that Obama has turned out to be remarkably intelligent, pragmatic and diligent).

They really do live in some strange alternate reality if they think this court is liberal. My God, who do they want on the court? Attila the Hun, Genghis Khan, or Vlad the Impaler?
