Heartbreaking

Barack Obama’s Grandmother has died. My heart goes out to Barack and his family.

These are two of my favorite renditions of this song. I am not a Christian, but have great respect for Christians who follow their faith kindly. The man who wrote this song seems to be one of them.

I cannot express my bittersweet heartfelt emotion for Barack today, except perhaps by listening to Amazing Grace.

Thanks to NavyBlueWife for posting the family’s statement

It is with great sadness that we announce that our grandmother, Madelyn Dunham, has died peacefully after a battle with cancer. She was the cornerstone of our family, and a woman of extraordinary accomplishment, strength, and humility. She was the person who encouraged and allowed us to take chances. She was proud of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and left this world with the knowledge that her impact on all of us was meaningful and enduring. Our debt to her is beyond measure.

Our family wants to thank all of those who sent flowers, cards, well-wishes, and prayers during this difficult time. It brought our grandmother and us great comfort. Our grandmother was a private woman, and we will respect her wish for a small private ceremony to be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, we ask that you make a donation to any worthy organization in search of a cure for cancer.

  2. What a long road he has taken. What he must be thinking now.

I have no words to add. Life is tragic. Life is beautiful. You can’t seem to have the one without the other. What a wonderful woman she was.

  3. The more tragic it is. His father left him when he was two. His mother died of cancer far too young. And now, on the verge of becoming president, he’s an orphan in this wide wide world. That amazing story of his background, to come from nowhere, to be on the verge of having everything, and then to realise, you cannot carry the ones you love with you.

He’s got Michelle. And he’s got his daughters. And they carry the spark of his grandmother, and they will do great things in her name. But as we all no – this is no substitute for the one you loved who has now gone.
