Since 2008 – Progress Through Politics

The Evil Lie-beral Algebra Conspiracy

Here’s quick math quiz for you Moose-folk: Cindy has 25 cookies, the government confiscates 21 of the to redistribute to the poor to win votes for reelection, how many more votes will the government thieves get? If Cindy “donates” 6 cookies to a election campaign, how many votes will Cindy get to give her a tax break?

Give up? Well, you’re in luck, because Fox Business host Eric Bolling is here to infrom us all of President Obama and the evil teacher’s unions’ sinister plot for “‘pushing the liberal agenda’ for teaching an algebra lesson about the distributive property”. Yes, we need to beware of the evils of the “distributive property of multiplication”- as opposed to, I guess, the “christian capitalist property of multiplication”.

Don’t even get me started on the outrage of dividing a sum.

I'll always be a Republican

I’ll always be a Republican, much in the same way that I’ll always be a dumb ‘ole Iowa farmboy. It’s the way I grew up; it’s where I came from. No matter how far I’ve moved on from that time- and I’d say it’s probably the same for anyone- your roots leave their mark on you.

The Motley Moose was founded as a moderate, inclusive, progressive place to discuss politics and the path of our country. With a unique voices from other places like MyDD, DailyKos, LittleGreenFootballs, etc, something that can’t be found anywhere else on the internet. But even so, the general audience on this site skews heavily to the left.

So what brings me here? Why do I hang around?

Something about Michelle Bachmann liberals have to respect

I might not like Michelle Bachmann- as a Republican, I’m aghast that someone like her could get elected… repeatedly. Aghast, but not surprised. I’m waiting for the day when there’s a moderate (or at least sane) member of the Republican party I can stand behind without seeing them debase themselves by constantly groveling and prostrating themselves to the lowest-effing-common denominator in my party. Lord only knows when that will be.

But as much as I dislike her, her antics, the constant attention she gets, and generally what she stands for, I have to give her credit on one hot button issue- abortion.

The sad state of Trolling

Trolling used to mean something.

Oh, trolls on this site- and the internet in general- used to believe in things. Honor. Respect. Look at you! What do you believe in, huh? WHAT DO YOU BELIEVE IN?

I suppose I should have seen this coming, though.

Let me tell you a story. A long time ago, when the world was young, I was on USENET. My friends and I were running the alt.comp.sys.ibm.flightsim board, and we were trying to convince the alt.comp.sys.ibm.pcgame folks that, while a niche board, we deserved to have a place with their larger group.

But our negotiations kept breaking down; a troll would interfere, obfuscate, crap in the threads. We went looking for the troll, to find his motives and his reasoning- for six months, we looked for him. One day, I happened across a humorous posting on alt.barney.dinosaur.die.die.die and boom- there he was. He didn’t even play video games.

So why troll our forum?

Because he thought it was good sport. Because some trolls aren’t looking for anything logical, like intellectual honesty. They can’t be bought except by major political parties, bullied, reasoned or negotiated with.

Some trolls just want to watch the world burn.

Happy Thanksgiving

Happy Thanksgiving, everyone, and a hearty blessing to you and your family this day. We have many things to give thanks for today- go share them with your family and friends.

In the meantime, I wanted to share a short prayer with you:

Almighty God, we thank you for our good fortune with full and grateful hearts. We thank you for our family and friends; we thank you for this community we’ve built and share. We ask your blessing this day, and to watch over us, especially in these troubling times; to keep us, our friends, our family, our country on the path to righteousness; for those suffering with medical bills and health care concerns; for those unemployed and suffering hard times; for our men and women overseas who can’t share this day with their families; for President Obama and our political leaders, to help keep their judgment clear and sound, to lead us through the specter of darkness facing our great nation. In your name we pray; Amen.

Thanks for our community, guys. Even from those of us not around as much as we used to be, trust me- it means a lot. God Bless, and have a great day.

Daily Musings with Ragekage

Yesterday I made an appointment with my doctor, but an hour later, Katherine Sebelius called me back and canceled the appointment! I’m not so sure about this Obamacare thing anymore!

What do you guys think?

Have a Very Moosey Christmas

I just wanted to pass on, to all of you who have joined our community here at the Moose, how thankful I am to have you guys here. This is truly a community, as tight-knit and firm a bond as any. Amazing, in this day and age, with the anonymity of the Internet and the distances separating us, that a group of people could come together the way we have. In that light, I’d like to share a prayer.

Heavenly Father,

Thank you for the many blessing you have bestowed upon my family and I this Christmas.

Thank you for watching over our family and friends; thank you for offering hope where there was none. Thank you for guiding us in this time of trial and hardship, for our nation and our community here at the Moose.

I humbly ask that you enlighten those who do harm in your name; that you provide understanding and tolerance where it is lacking, and that you protect those who suffer from that lack. Watch over our boys and girls deployed overseas; watch over our leaders and help keep their guidance firm and true; keep our families safe and sound.

In your name we pray. Amen.

Wherever you are this Christmas, and whatever you’re doing, God Bless you all- have a wonderful day.
