Sunday All Day Check-in for the Herd

Make sure you let your peeps

  know where to find you!

PLEASE Do Not Recommend the check-in diary!

Fierces on the Weather Critter Comment are obligatory welcome.

The morning check-in is an open thread posted to give you a place to visit with the meeses. Feel free to chat about your weather, share a bit of your life, grump (if you must), rave (if you can). The diarist du jour sometimes posts and runs, other times sticks around for a bit, often returns throughout the day and always cares that meeses are happy … or at least contented.

On weekends (and holidays), you may find the check-in thread earlier or later than normal because … it is the weekend! Moosies need their beauty rest:

For those new to the Moose, Kysen left a Moose Welcome Mat (Part Deux) so, please, wipe your feet before you walk in the front door start posting.

The important stuff to get you started:

– Comments do not Auto-refresh. Click the refresh/reload on your tab to see new ones. Only click Post once for comments. When a diary’s comment threads grow, the page takes longer to refresh and the comment may not display right away.

– To check for replies to your comments, click the “My Comments” link in the right-hand column (or go to “My Moose”). Comments will be listed and a link to Recent Replies will be shown. (Note: Tending comments builds community)

– Ratings: Fierce means Thumbs Up, Fail means Thumbs Down, Meh means one of three things: I am unFailing you but I can’t Fierce you, I am unFiercing after a mistaken Fierce … or Meh. Just Meh. (p.s. Ratings don’t bestow mojo, online behaviour does).

– The Recommended list has a prominent place on the Front Page because it reflects the interests of the Moose. When people drive-by, we want them to see what we are talking about: news, politics, science, history, personal stories, culture. The list is based on number of recs and days on the list. Per Kysen: “The best way to control Rec List content is to ONLY rec diaries you WANT to see ON the list.

– Finally, the posting rules for a new diary: “Be excellent to each other… or else

(Some other commenting/posting/tending notes for newbies can be found in this past check-in and, of course, consult Meese Mehta for all your questions on meesely decorum.)

going to be spending Sunday morning chatting online and chasing Chica the puppy around the house. She has discovered shoes as her new favorite chew toys.

listening to oldies while I scan the news

81 degree part of Moosyvlania.  Am going out now for a little bird watching and breakfast.

Just saw that one million people in Iraq are displaced. Such suffering.

Am trying not to worry about Hobby Lobby.

As for the unions, this is what I think

    Union Maid

Words and Music by Woody Guthrie

There once was a union maid, she never was afraid

Of goons and ginks and company finks and the deputy sheriffs who made the raid.

She went to the union hall when a meeting it was called,

And when the Legion boys come ’round

    She always stood her ground.

Oh, you can’t scare me, I’m sticking to the union,

I’m sticking to the union, I’m sticking to the union.

Oh, you can’t scare me, I’m sticking to the union,

I’m sticking to the union ’til the day I die.

This union maid was wise to the tricks of company spies,

She couldn’t be fooled by a company stool, she’d always organize the guys.

She always got her way when she struck for better pay.

She’d show her card to the National Guard

And this is what she’d say

    You gals who want to be free, just take a tip from me;

Get you a man who’s a union man and join the ladies’ auxiliary.

Married life ain’t hard when you got a union card,

A union man has a happy life when he’s got a union wife.

Eating breakfast, watching Up. Iraq, the Boehner lawsuit (& wow I hate the conservative guy who is on), and Wendy Davis will be on soon. Later I’ll make next week’s breakfast & lunch.

Twice yesterday I heard In Between Days. Happy, poppy, 80s song. Kinda weird to hear it at the grocery store in the morning then getting spring rolls in the evening.

The grand kids are all home and my house is so wonderfully quiet 🙂 I’ll be in the garden soon planting those last few pots and deciding what to do about the rose bush full of rose hips that I want for fall but are now smothering the day lilies that I want to see in bloom. Such a dilemma!
