Wednesday Watering Hole: Check In & Hangout for the Herd

Good morning meese! Happy happy Wednesday!

PLEASE Do Not Recommend the check-in diary!

Recs on the weather jar comment are still welcome.

The common Moose, Alces alces, unlike other members of the deer family, is a solitary animal that doesn’t form herds. Not so its rarer but nearest relative, Alces purplius, the Motley Moose. Though sometimes solitary, the Motley Moose herds in ever shifting groups at the local watering hole to exchange news and just pass the time.

The morning check-in is an open thread and general social hour.

It’s traditional but not obligatory to give us a weather check where you are and let us know what’s new, interesting, challenging or even routine in your life lately. Nothing is particularly obligatory here except:

Always remember the Moose Golden (Purple?) Rule:

Be kind to each other… or else.

What could be simpler than that, right?

Honestly they could post that same forecast every day through mid-December amd come pretty close.

Vacation is over. Back to work today.

  2. It is 58 degrees here on its way up to 75. The forecast calls for scattered thunderstorms. Yesterday we had some pretty noisy storms most of the day.

A quick scan of the newswire was pretty depressing. I was off the grid most of yesterday and I am glad I did not see any of it in realtime. Sheesh! Dead kids is the price you pay so that Wayne LaPierre can afford hair gel for his combover? I think not.

I decided that the best place to read this kind of news is on Charlie Pierce’s blog and Wonkette because so much needed to be mocked and cursed at.

In a piece totally unrelated to the latest insanity but related to the ongoing derangement in the House of Representatives, from Charlie Pierce on Benghaziiii!:

It seems that there is a bit of a slapfight erupting in the Benghazi sandbox among the angry children of the House of Representatives. John Kerry, who is not at all as dumb as the people seeking his testimony in relation to the ongoing nothingburger, has decided to middle the whole muddle.

[In a letter to Issa, Assistant Secretary of State for legislative affairs Julia] Frifield said that Mr. Kerry would testify in June, but that in complying with Mr. Issa’s demands, “we believe this would remove any need for the secretary to appear before the select committee” on the Benghazi attacks.

This is Kerry’s very polite way of pointing out what a farce it is. I’ll talk to him, the crazy felon guy, but not to him, the Cackalacky rube with the fratboy name and the Conehead haircut.

    HAHAHAHA!! I feel better already.

Catch up day here, meeses. See all y’all later.

to work on projects or serve on teams with stupid that I cannot even imagine what it would be like to work with both crazy and stupid.

My Congressman for years was Chris van Hollen and I admire him tremendously, not least for even keeping his sanity, much less his smarts and effectiveness.

MD redistricted to get rid of a RWNJ Loon and now my Congressman is John Delaney, a smart newbie who just wrote this in WaPo.

I haven’t read it yet but I’m sending Mr. Delaney waves of patience and strength.

I’m at work. Forgot myself & sang along with Creak in the Floorboards on the way in. Did a speaking voice check & all seems fine. We’ll see, because I thought I was fine yesterday.

It rained more last night & there’s a 20% chance every day for the rest of the week. Absolutely wonderful! They said we finally for enough that the lakes are rising — though they are at 40% full so a 1 foot rise isn’t much.

Anyway, I hope I stay at work all day.

for low sixties, with rain making a fitful appearance. Am already tired of summer.

Am also tired of Benghazi being exploited by the right wing. Actually, am furious. What happened was, no question, a disaster on many fronts.  People died horribly. They were brave and these investigations mock their deaths and turn them into a joke.

thunderstorms predicted for this afternoon. Miss Pink Cheeks just finished breakfast, which included the strawberries I picked after tea yesterday.

Glad it’s going to rain, which means we don’t have to worry about watering the garden. When I have nothing else to do, I must think of a way to prevent my pears from being stolen this year. What I’d like is a motion sensor that triggers a powerful light and a screeching wail like that of a police siren, but I don’t know where to find such a thing.

Everyone have a good day and stay dry!

    yawn

got up at 3AM and went back to bed to take a nap.

Time to start my day (again) – skies are grey.

Guess I’ll just stay in and do some writing.

The grey kitty (not really so little – 12 lbs – just little compared with 14-lb Charlie) is FIV positive.  Poor guy has had a rough life for at least the last several months worth of recently.  His fur is rough and patchy – some of it from fights and some from scratching fleas although that’s calmed down since I put the flea goo on him Saturday (I think it was Saturday) evening.  He wouldn’t let the vet examine his mouth but from what the vet could tell the poor boy has at least one broken canine tooth and maybe more.  I got him wormed and also his rabies shot (we’re having rabies outbreaks this year) “just in case” and they gave me the name of a cat sanctuary (not open yet – I’ll let you know what they say when I reach them) and basically wished me luck.  I can’t take him to any of the other shelters unless I’m willing to deal with the fact that they will put him down as soon as the FIV test comes back positive.  Should he be “placeable”, somebody’s going to have to pay to get him fixed.  I’m not sure I can afford it.  (This trip cost $100 with just the tests and the rabies shot.)  So.  Not exactly sure how I’m doing at this point.  But I’ll keep trying the cat sanctuary.  Sigh.

Our guests left yesterday and despite my good intentions napping was about all I managed to do. After the pool this morning I have a long list of errands and chores to keep me busy. And I had best deal with the basket of mail I stashed under the desk before you all wonder why I’ve gone silent!

voice started going, I drank some hot tea with honey & it didn’t help, after the 1st patron that I had to shout at (our callers are frequently 80+ and more than slightly deaf, we raise our voices a lot), I decided I need to not talk. I might even take a nap.
