Wednesday Watering Hole: Check In & Hangout for the Herd

Good morning meese! Happy happy Wednesday!

PLEASE Do Not Recommend the check-in diary!

Recs on the weather jar comment are still welcome.

The common Moose, Alces alces, unlike other members of the deer family, is a solitary animal that doesn’t form herds. Not so its rarer but nearest relative, Alces purplius, the Motley Moose. Though sometimes solitary, the Motley Moose herds in ever shifting groups at the local watering hole to exchange news and just pass the time.

A Moose in my neck of the woods right now would look like this:

The morning check-in is an open thread and general social hour. Come back when time allows through the day – the conversation continues.

It’s traditional but not obligatory to give us a weather check where you are and let us know what’s new, interesting, challenging or even routine in your life lately. Nothing is particularly obligatory here except:

Always remember the Moose Golden (Purple?) Rule:

Be kind to each other… or else.

What could be simpler than that, right?

    …heading for a balmy 25 or so.

Tomorrow they finally repair the rotator cuff of doom and attempt to reattach the retracted muscle. Should be lovely. Yes, it’s my dominant hand because of course it is. Recuperation period will be about 4 months, but I expect to be AWOL here only for a week or so.

Meanwhile look for your guest host trs (aka the world’s greatest spouse) on Friday and for a few more diaries until I am feeling more ambitious.

some parts of the upstate region have wind chills at 25 below – thankfully not me.

Iriti – best wishes and thoughts for your surgery -and another welcome to trs, who will have to share the honors of world’s greatest spouse 😉

Trying to read the responses to the SOTU.

  3. It is -4 with a windchill of -14. I would tell you what the expected high is except that my weather channel widget won’t respond, probably because I updated the app. Or it is possible that the expected highs are not in the same place anymore and I will need to figure out how to use it.

I think I remember the forecast suggesting that it will get to 20 or 23.

I need to go read the news. I will avoid the stories that suggest that they will say negative things about the president’s speech because the day after the State of the Union is for echo-chambering (or as I call it, Democratic cocooning). Tomorrow I will read the nay-sayers saying nay … today it is unicorns!!

We weren’t supposed to get this. It was supposed to happen south and east, not north and west. Thankfully, Younger Son is going to drop Miss Pink Cheeks off at our house. I’ll give her breakfast and Grandpa can drive her to day care.

Wish they wouldn’t put the SOTU on so late at night–I dozed off while watching because I was tired. Been sleeping very badly of late, so that may have had something to do with it.

Was going to have coffee with Niece and Great-Nephew this morning, but that may be delayed too. The schools are on a two-hour delay here.

Iriti, best wishes and healing vibes to you! Hope you will not be uncomfortable during all of this.

Everyone stay warm and have a good day!

And so begins my “clear liquid” day. I’ve had 500 ml of aloe juice (they said any juice, as long as it’s clear — I think apple & grape would have had me in a coma). And now 500 ml of mango-flavored coconut water, starting on the chocolate flavor (hey, it’s as clear as tea, which they said I can have)

So, multiple meltdowns yesterday – the congressman threatening to throw a reporter off a balcony, the Benghazi guy…. wow.

Today’s plan – have much liquid. Hope I can sleep tonight (you should see the amount of Gatorade they said I have to drink tonight)

Good morning….we’re settling in to our new reality. Yesterday I found some soft pants that will fit and won’t hurt his swollen hip, solved the shower chair problem so the bathroom won’t flood again, filled the calendar with all the tests and appointments we have to get ourselves to, and with our wonderful son’s help cooked a good dinner so we’ll all keep our spirits up.

Then we watched the President rise above the petty issues afflicting this country and went to bed.

Ron’s getting bored, which will be a problem, but it means he’s feeling better so I’ll cope!

I’ve still got my cold and feel like crap (partly because of the generic Nyquil that let me sleep but hangs on for days) and I’m the healthiest/least infectious member of the department right now.  Faculty meeting today which will mostly bring in everybody who’s very intelligently been keeping their germs at home.  Major projects are done or pending so I’m clearing the phoofally stuff while I have the chance.  Good weather and better health to all in mooseland.  {{{HUGS}}} bf

Have I mentioned that I’m starving? I left work at 3:30 because I was so cold & light headed…. I get cold when I don’t eat, besides I’ve been drinking cold stuff all day. I have had a truly epic amount of coconut water & aloe juice, and now I have to drink 64 ounces of Gatorade with Miralax in it. Sounds like a fun evening? Luckily, after Revolution, there’s nothing good on TV, so I can go to bed as early as the Gatorade will let me.

I have a cab picking me up in the morning, a book to read that it doesn’t matter if my brain stops working (Idiot’s Guide to Irish History — which I can always re-read), a friend picking me up….. They really want someone to stay overnight — what are single people – actually single single people – supposed to do? My friend Diana is taking part of her day off to pick me up, I’m not asking her to hang out while I sleep. If I don’t want to go straight to sleep, maybe I’ll take her to lunch…. that ought to be enough time to tell if I’m wacky. Dangerously wacky. Wackier than….. oh, you know what I mean.

Approximately 19 hours till I can eat.
