Wednesday Watering Hole: Check In & Hangout for the Herd

Good morning, Moosekind.

PLEASE Do Not Recommend the check-in diary!

Recs on the weather jar comment are still welcome.

The common Moose, Alces alces, unlike other members of the deer family, is a solitary animal that doesn’t form herds. Not so its rarer but nearest relative, Alces purplius, the Motley Moose. Though sometimes solitary, the Motley Moose herds in ever shifting groups at the local watering hole to exchange news and just pass the time.

The morning check-in is an open thread and general social hour. Come back when time allows through the day – the conversation continues.

It’s traditional but not obligatory to give us a weather check where you are and let us know what’s new, interesting, challenging or even routine in your life lately. Nothing is particularly obligatory here except:

Always remember the Moose Golden (Purple?) Rule:

Be kind to each other… or else.

What could be simpler than that, right?

Heading for a high of 63. Supposed to be in the mid 70’s tomorrow to celebrate the end of October. My body is soo confused.

Guess what day it is, Meeses! It’s Humpday! Happy Wednesday.

  2. It is 45 degrees on its way up to 58 degrees … chance of afternoon showers. I have my window open again (yay).

I have been flummoxed and befuddled the past 3 or 4 days and it is probably the change in the weather and the waning moon and the closeness of Samhain. Or the impending time change?  Does our body “know” that the clocks are about to fall back??

There are only two days left in October and my plans to wrap up some projects for October billing have taken a hit because of my lack of energy. Wait, I know what I can do … get moar coffee!!!

    See all y’alls later!!

and I have no idea what I am going to wear. Is it Spring? Whatever it is, hope it’s perfect in your part of the world.

Rain! And lots of it. 90% chance today & tonight. And most will run off into the lakes & creeks, so we may see lake levels rise above 50%. They’re even saying that if this pattern holds, we might get out of drought status.

Wearing orange & black again. Too warm for shoes (I even wished I hadn’t worn my black capris yesterday, it’s too warm for long pants today), so no Halloween socks.

Eating breakfast & drinking tea. Earworm is Chocolate by Snow patrol. I can’t figure out why it’s called that.

We have no weather today. It seems to be room temperature outside, with no visible sky.

Yesterday’s crockpot stew turned out meh. Did you know there’s meat so tough that 5 hours marinating and 5 hours in a crockpot still leaves it leathery? Also, if you put way too much food in the crockpot, the potatoe pieces still don’t finish cooking.

This one you probably knew. That “way too much food” thing? It means that when you remove the ceramic pot of stew, the crockpot itself is all black and sticky inside.

This is why my kitchen smells of vinegar and baking soda and I have enjoyed much explosive fizzing this morning. Somebody remind me that crockpot, with fizzy stuff, is set on “warm” and I need to turn off, empty out, and scrub it later.

It’s gray and gloomy looking outside, still cool from the night. Supposed to be reasonable later. Woke up achy from head to toe again, and sinuses will not be reasoned with.

    Brain jukebox selection:

Yes, that song is older than I am, but not by much.

I have been a bit quite for the past couple of weeks. I had to write and submit a grant proposal. It went out in yesterday’s mail. Given the stat of the economy, I think that the chances of getting the grant are rather slim, but I had to give it the old college try.

clearing. Going up to 64 F. this morning and tomorrow will be even warmer, which means our princess won’t freeze in her costume.  ðŸ™‚

Today Son and Daughter-in-law have taken off work, as they’re closing on their house this afternoon. We’re all trooping over to see it after tea. Tomorrow Dearly Beloved will stay in the house to receive the furniture.  I’ll help as much as I can but tomorrow is Samhain so I’ll have preparations to make.

Read in The Washington Post yesterday that the meeses are disappearing–this is so sad. Apparently only those in the very far north are healthy. Climate change is encouraging ticks and diseases that are killing off the moose population.

Will never forget the mother moose and baby moose I saw standing patiently by the side of the road as our little minivan made its way to the Portage Glacier, years ago. I hate to think their numbers are decreasing.

Good luck to everyone today in all their endeavors!

too warm to wear a sweater and too cool not to.  Last night went pretty much the way I expected/feared.  After several hours of arguing – much of it based on Faux Noise assessments of the economy and value of public workers – we did add a 3% COLA plus 1/2% per completed year from 2-5+ years tenure to the proposed budget.  By a vote of 7 Rs and 1 Dem, we lost the added maximum 20-cents/hour for the folks making less than $17/hr ($17/hour is the point at which a 3% COLA translates to a 50-cent/hour raise).  We also passed an increase – 85% of state-mandated range maximum – for the full-time elected officials (since we didn’t give them anything last year) – the really big “win” as far as I’m concerned is the Coroner’s office was included in that.  The Coroner’s position went from part-time to full-time when we became a Class 7 county but previous QCs refused to increase the pay to the same rate as the other full-time elected officials “because it’s too much of an increase”.  The serious irony is we (it passed – I didn’t vote for it) increased our own pay 60% since we’d been so frugal the last several years.  Sometimes I hate the people I work with on the Court.  Sigh.  Need to stop hating, it’s bad for my digestive system.  Anyway, {{{HUGS}}} to the mooses.

But it’s just getting light…..the long darkness is making it’s presence know again.

I go to the pool this morning, then care for our grand girl this afternoon. I’m going to have her help me take the spent begonias our of the planters and plant winter pansies in their places. Then while I rest she will tear trough a lot of art projects…..staples, pens, tape and paper make her a happy little girl.
